![]() It is one of those spells that is extremely powerful if you know how to be creative and find ways to use it to its true potential. This is one of my favorite cantrips in Dungeons and Dragons. So whether you are a Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard or Druid, you will have access to this spell right away! Minor Illusion Almost every single ‘magical’ class is able to use Thunderclap in 5th edition DnD. It is a pretty useful spell if you know how to use it. Thunderclap is another Cantrip that is Somatic only and thus does not require a verbal component in DnD. The classes that are able to pick this cantrip are Druids, sorcerers and the wizard! Thunderclap This is mainly due to the fact that the only components required is being able to move, in other words, the somatic (S) component. This is a bit more useful than Friends in a campaign, in my opinion. No surprises here, but Control Flames is also a cantrip in 5e DnD. I am not a fan of this spell, and I don’t think it is very strong. If you are a Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock or Wizard you can pick this spell. There are a ton of classes that are able to use this cantrip. You do need a somatic and material component to cast it. FriendsĪnother cantrip for you won’t need the verbal component is Friends. To use Shape water you only need a somatic component and you need to be a Druid, Sorcerer or Wizard. Since they are all cantrips, the good thing is you do not need to sacrifice a spell slot. All of these spells are pretty weak and are intended for beginners. Yes, another cantrip on this list! You are getting the pattern I suppose. If you are a druid, it is a cantrip that is definitely worth considering. The big drawback of this cantrip is that only one class can use it: the druid. The only thing you need to be able to do is be able to move. Primal SavageryĪnother cantrip that is somatic only is the primal Savagery starter spell. There are a couple of classes that can use this spell: The Sorcerer, wizard and the druid. It is a somatic only spell, which means you do not need a verbal and material component to use it. Since it is a cantrip you can use it right away if you are in the right class for it. All the spells that do not use a verbal component in 5e Mold Earth I am not going to discuss this in this guide. You need to have the appropriate class, a spell slot or Cantrip slot open and the level to use it. ![]() Of course, these are not all the requirements you need to cast magic in Dungeons and Dragons. If you do not want to use this component, well you are at the perfect place to learn how to avoid speaking in DnD campaigns. A good example of the magic that requires this component is Power Word Kill and Cloudkill. You can cast a spell that requires this component if you are gagged, silenced and are not able to produce an audible and clear noise. In other words, avoiding magic that uses a verbal component! This component is also indicated with a (V). This is what this guide is all about spells without verbal components. If you are interested in spells that do not need a material component, check out my guide on exactly that! The verbal component If you do not have the material, you are not going to be able to cast that magic. To use this one, you will need to have a pinch of sand. Another good example is the spell Catnap. For example, if you cast Incite Greed you are going to need a gem to make it work. These materials are often linked to the effect of magic. What item you need to use depends on the magic you are going to cast. As you might of guessed, you will need to have an item to make this spell work. The abbreviation for the material component is (m). There is a ton of magic that requires movements to cast them, so making sure a wizard can not move is a great way to make them much less effective. A great example of a spell that only uses somatic components, and no verbal or material, is Beast Sense. So if a wizard or cleric has his hands bound, or is stuck in a very tight space, he or she won’t be able to cast the spell. You need to be able to move your hands free and do a couple of magical hand signs and your PC has to be able to point at the target. The somatic component is abbreviated as an (S). This is what they are and why it is important to understand these when you are picking a spell you want to add to your arsenal! The somatic component There are three components that you are going to take into account when casting your spells. If you are a complete DnD noobie, and you want to know more about components needed to cast magic, here is what you need to know. Related Posts: What components are there for spells?
